Work from home on developing country
Try to google for “work from home” or similar phrase, and we would find huge number of results. It shows that working at home become so popular nowadays, especially when world economy in downturn, layoffs are everywhere and everyone looking for better, effective and cost saving solution. Programmer, web designer, translator and customer service are just few of many available on Internet for working from home. More people then daily trying to join with many work from home provider to find their luck with this kind of work experience. US, Canada, Europe, Japan, India and China are country that their people know well about work from home and profit from it, but how about developing country like my country self, Indonesia?
Unfortunately, work from home is not to a trend yet on developing country, it start to be known, yes, but euphoria is not a big wave yet. Some of reasons are:
Traditional concept of work
People are like to be save and within a comfort zone, and traditional working concept where you apply for work to someone or a company and receive your monthly paycheck is suitable for “to be save” requirement.
Low penetration
People penetration on working from home concept is still low, when we explain to them, most will get confuse on how it would be? who is the employer? how do they send the work? how they get paid? would they get increment next year? and more questions regarding working from home process. From consumer/company point of view itself, trustworthy and progress monitor still a major issue for them.
Infrastructure support
On country like India or China where government aware on potency of Internet. Infrastructure become very crucial, affordable unlimited internet access with 512kbps is like everywhere, but not for other emerging country. Indonesia or instance, a flat price for unlimited internet subscription is just introduced to public recently, speed is also limited, higher speed is available but more money need to be spent and only some people willing to pay for it.
So, what is portrait of working from home on developing country nowadays. It well known on its youth people, either on high school or university or fresh graduate level, due to difficulties on finding available job match with their expertise, working from home become an alternative. Unfortunately, working concept that mainly used are a scam sales letter concept where people selling a membership on a dream-selling affiliate marketer. Good news is some people have start to do work from home professionally. Offshore service on programming, web design and customer service virtual company are start to be set-up by some people and most of them are housewife mom. With better educating methodology on working from home concept to leverage on its penetration, developing country could have a big chance to be major player on this niche.
