Networking is never about who you know, but it’s about who know you
Booming of Facebook and Twitter has make lots of people like to compete to bring more follower to their network. Some of my fellows have more than 10,000 followers within his twitter network. Is it very crucial to have tons of friend on your address book ? answer always yes, for whatever reason we may have, either it’s for get more friend, marketing your blog or greater business purpose. Networking is always about quantity, but that’s only first step, when it come to next episode, quality of your network then need to be asked ? so is not who you know but who know you.
Who you know means number of people that we have on our address book or on our facebook friend or on our twitter followers, to have huge numbers on all of those are good. But don’t sound to proud if actually none of them are know that you exist, question is if we would ask all of those people about our self, would they able to answer that and give good reference ? Having 500 followers who constantly review our status is better rather than having like 10,000 followers who never read our tweet, those 500 followers are called as people “who know you”.
So, how to get more “who know you” within our network, below tip may be useful
1. Start with smile
Moslem believe that smile is part of faith, God will reward you for your smile. So, let’s try with this simple task, smile to our network, welcome them. A short message with a simple “Hi, thanks for follow me” is worth to try
2. Show that you care with your network
If we want people to know us then first we have to know them well also, and best way to do this is to show that we care with them. We can do this by constantly say “Hi” to them, asking what they doing right now or send gift during special occasion (like birthday or anniversary day). On world of internet, all of those can be done by visiting our network website, randomly review their update or a nice daily blog walking may work also.
3. Be a good listener
When we involve within a network, then bidirectional interaction is a keyword for its success. We have to be a good listener, when someone within our network are requesting for our attention. Reply message and comment are addressed to us, is a good practice to be good listener on world of internet
4. Ask for help when you need it
People are like to get appreciation for what they do, and asking for help is one thing that tell other that we appreciate them, we ask help from them because we know that they are capable on give suggestion or recommendation to solve our issue.
5. Be proportional
Keep in mind, our network are there to help us to achieve our purpose, whether is for branding our self, marketing our product or give our business some lead. Network is not our life real time monitor, so don’t bug our network like every 15 minutes with a useless information about our self. It’s good if they know us, but sometime we should hide something also from others
